Lamenting Together: Community Eicha Reading
The central ritual of Tisha B'Av, a Jewish day of mourning, is reading Megillat Eicha, the Book of Lamentations. The text itself is theologically challenging and the chanting, which is unlike the way other Jewish texts are read aloud, mimics the sounds of crying. The reading is meant to help listeners more fully feel this moment of sadness. Join Rabbi Julia Andelman together with the My Jewish ...

Upon waking up, after saying the Modé ani, one must proceed to Netilat Yadayim. Before the netilah, one must avoid the following: a) pronouncing the name of G-d or words of the Torah; b) walking more than two meters c) touching the eyes, nose, ears, mouth or other parts of the body. - Since one avoids walking two meters before the netilah, it is advisable to prepare a vessel with water and a basin in the evening and leave them near the bed, in order to perform the netilah immediately upon waking up. - If possible, one should try to use a vessel with two handles. - One must be careful not to touch that water before the netilah in order not to make it impure. - If the netilah was done before dawn, at the first rays of the sun one does it again (because the same night causes impurity) but without repeating the berachá. The correct way to perform netilat upon awakening: One takes the vessel in the right hand and switches to the left. Then one pours the water first into the right hand; then one takes the vessel again in the right hand, pouring into the left. This is done three times, alternately - The water should cover the entire surface of the hands up to the fists, but if there is not enough water, or on Yom Kippur and Tishah Beav, one pours the water just above the fingers (up to the junction of the fingers with the hands), which is sufficient. - Netilat should always be performed with a vessel. - The water used for netilat may not be used for any other purpose (since a spirit of impurity remains in it) and it should not be thrown in places where people pass by who might step on it. - The beracha of Netilat Yadayim must be recited before drying hands and should not be recited near the water that was used, but can also be recited with the morning blessings that follow immediately after the cleansing. - If it is not possible to observe the above requirements, one may do the netilah with any kind of liquid, or any material (that cleanses) and without human strength (thus also being able to recite the blessing of Netilat Yadaim). As soon as it is possible to do the netilah properly, one must do it again, but this time without beracha. - Other occasions when the netilah is necessary (but without beracha) After cutting one’s hair; After cutting one’s nails; After bodily needs; After leaving the bathroom or toilet; After drawing blood; After conjugal intercourse; After putting on or taking off one’s shoes; After touching covered parts of the body; Upon returning from a funeral, leaving a cemetery or necropolis.

I find it very interesting that most of the "now" Jewish symbolisms all come from pagan origins. Including the Yarmulke, which comes from Roman oppressor who ruled over the Jews. The Popes worn them long before the Jews. More interesting is the fact that God commanded Moses to not make images of anything in the heavens or earth. The furnishing of the Temple would be the closes items that have symbolic meanings. The tables on which the commandments were written, the Ark, Lamp stand, Table of show bread, Angels covering the Ark etc, etc. . The wearing of any jewelry, rings, bracelets and necklaces all originate in pagan religions and or cultures. So again the "world" has infected the peoples of God more than the peoples of God affecting the world (positively). Something to think about.

First, very beautifully sung. I've been scouring YT trying to find this blessing spoken because I'm a gentile who is portraying Mr. Dussel in the stage adaptation of the Diary of Anne Frank, and there is a scene where I am chanting the first 3 lines of this blessing and I don't want to disrespect it in any way. Anyways, thank you for your beautiful rendition!

The obsession with blasphemy in Job is perhaps another clue as to its pagen origin. The meager mention of this sin in the Totah show that it wasn't a very big issue for Jews.

FYI during my research during covid time ... all plagues and black death type time periods can be linked back to a rise in humanism. Interdasting connection, but one could say it is a judgement on us as a ppl, or one could call covid that too. Best to pray for wisdom (response during 15+ min mark)
